2020 Tenuta Cucco Barolo Serralunga d'Alba, Italy, Piedmont, Wine Review
This is 100% Nebbiolo from the commune of Serralunga d'Alba of Barolo. Bright ruby/burgundy in color with a bit or orange on the rim, mostly clear and bright. The nose is very nice with cherries, tea, slight tar and wild thyme. Medium bodied. Great energy and balance. Firm tannins. On the palate, this has some depth. Flavors of cherries, black cherries, slight tea and char. Long finish. This drinks well on its own but better with food. It would work very well with pasta in a cream and mushroom sauce. Drink over the next ten to twelve years.
2023 Tenuta Cucco Langhe Nebbiolo, Italy, Piedmont, Wine Review
This is 100% Nebbiolo from Piemonte in Italy. Organic. Pale ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose is nice with sour cherries, slight strawberries, and a hint of rose petals. With air, some chalky dustiness comes out. Medium bodied. Medium tannins. A nice backbone of acidity. On the palate, flavors of sour cherries and black cherries with a touch of spice. Moderate finish. This wine really needs food. Pizza would work but it can handle pasta with a (spicy) meat sauce. Drink over the next three to five years.
Papapietro Perry 2021 Pinot Noir, Nunes Vineyard
NV Penfolds Grandfather Rare Tawny, Australia, Wine Review
This is a Tawny styled "Port" wine that is made in a Solera with the wines a minimum of twenty years of age. Iced tea in color, clear and bright. The nose has fruit cake with a touch of vanilla and spice. Full bodied. Viscous. On the palate, this is sweet, not cloying. Flavors of toffee with some alcohol warming on the finish. This drinks great on its own and would work nicely with a not too sweet plain dessert such as a shortbread cookie. It should drink well for a long time, at least twenty years.
2021 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia, Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri Sassicaia, Wine Review
2016 Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon, USA, California, Napa, Rutherford, Wine Review
Wow. An incredible wine. it is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, California. Inky purple in color, opaque and shimmering bright. The nose is great with cassis, graphite, cedar, blueberries, spices and dark chocolate. Full bodied. Firm tannins. This is young but starting to develop nicely. Great balance and energy. On the palate, flavors of cassis, blueberries, chocolate, char and slight cigar. Long finish. Complex and layered, it opens quickly in the glass. This will continue to evolve but is a masterpiece right now. Drink over the next twenty to thirty years.
Turnbull 2021 Oakville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
When Turnbull launched in 1979 it was with the goal of producing excellent Cabernet Sauvignon. Of course, at the time there was a lot of excellent Cabernet in the market. But as many Napa Cabernets chose to make enormous and heavy-handed wines, Turnbull chose a different direction. The craftsmanship of this is an homage to Old-School Napa Cabernet - those wines not often made anymore that truly prized the plot of land and extolled the fruit over the use of high brix and lots of oak. So if you want to taste Cabernet the way it used to be, this will complement any occasion.
