2006 Château Clinet, France, Bordeaux, Pomerol - Wine Review

Score:
86
Grade:
B

Well, this was disappointing.  Sometimes Bordeaux's can go thru a dumb phase and sometimes that is just an excuse.  Watched over a couple of days with no improvement.  It wasn't bad, it just was... there.  And for this kind of money, that isn't really good enough.  Purple in color.  The nose has cherrie, dust and cedar.  On the palate, cherries.  Not much depth or complexity.  Its fine.  Nothing more.  Solid B.  I hope it improves or perhaps just an off bottle.  Or not.

1996 Martin Müllen Kröver Letterlay Riesling Spätlese halbtrocken, Germany, Mosel, - Wine Review

Score:

I opened this to show a friend how well that Rieslings can age.  A mostly dry Riesling from 1996 and it was beautiful.  Golden in color, slightly deep.  The nose is clean with just a bare whiff of petrol.  There was grapefruit peel, slight lemon notes and "wet rocks".  On the palate, it was rich and tasted dry but perhaps a bit of residual sugar left.  Nice round texture but enough acidity to easily cut through it.  Long finish.  It begs for food and rewards the food nicely.

2010 Château Rauzan-Gassies "Gassies", France, Bordeaux, Margaux - Wine Review

Score:

This is the second wine of Rauza-Gassies.  Very nice showing for this.  Purple in color.  A very pretty noce of cassis, dark cherries, and baking spice.  On the palate, slightly bitter at first but then opens into lovely black cherry fruit with some spice.  More elegant and seeming at or close to peak.  Mild tannins.  Lovely finish.  Another value play in Bordeaux (in great vintages anyway).

2010 Château Fleur Cardinale, France, Bordeaux, St. Emillion - Wine Review

Score:

Great showing for this wine.  It needs some time to develop but not as much as many of the better 2010's I have tasted.  Purple in color.  The nose has nice dark cherries but this also has an earthy Bordeaux funk going on along with some sandalwood.  Those who don't like the funk might want to consider drinking this earlier and certainly look for weel stored bottles.  On the palate, there is great black cherry fruit.  Juicy acidity.  Already showing a depp complexity.  Long finish.  It will be interesting to see how this develops further but it is awesome today!

2009 Château Grand Mayne, France, Bordeaux, St. Emillion - Wine Review

What a showing for this wine.  Performing way above my expectations.  A tremendous value in Bordeaux.  Purple in color.  A huge nose with dark cherries, charcoal, spice and cherry juice.  On the palate, this has a lush texture.  It seems to have shed a lot of the oak it had in its youth and is pretty close to the young side of peak.  Dark and fresh cherries.  Deep.  Mild tannins.  Long finish.  Delicious yet interesting.  Excellent.

2009 Château La Tour de Mons, France, Bordeaux, Margaux - Wine Review

Score:

Some real value here.  Probably one to loof or in 2015/2016.  The 09 was purple/ruby in color.  The nose has spice and dark cherries.  Very soft, accessible and seeming at peak but not past.  A very pretty wine and true to Margaux.  Light tannins.  Some cassis and some dark cherries on the palate.  Nice finish.  food friendly.

2009 Château Larcis Ducasse, France, Bordeaux - Wine Review

Score:

Grade:

Purple in color.  The nose has black cherries and baking spices.  Perhaps a bit of smoke.  On the palate, this is tannice bu very good black cherry fruit.  It opens in the glass and gets better all night long.  A slightly bitter note on the finish is a bit distracting.  Still not at peak, there is certainly room for some upside improvement here.

This is young and its best days are ahead of it.  Lots of upside potential  Purple in color, ruby at the rim.  The nose is intense with cherries, dark cherries, sandalwood, smoke and anise.  On the palate, this is quite lush.  Firm tannins.  Black cherries with lots of depth.  Voluptuous texture.  Long finish.  Pop and pour, this got better all night long.  Great wine but I would hold for until 2025 at least.
