Yapıncak is a grape variety native to Şarköy – Tekirdağ on the European part of Turkey. Golden with a light pinkish hue, clear and bright. The nose is different with scents of linden and slight citrus. On the palate, this is a bit flabby with little acidity. The linden comes thru. clipped on the finish. This is different. Probably better with food. Gözleme would be a nice choice. Drink now.
This is made from the Kalecik Karasi grape which is native to Turkey. 14.5% alcohol. Ruby in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose has cherries and strawberries, with slight sweaty sock notes (just enough to give it an earthy feel). Medium bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, this comes off much cleaner than the nose. Nice cherry fruit with some strawberries and light orange peel. It improved with about an hour of air. Some depth. Good finish. This is made from the white grape Narince (Nah-rin-djeh) which translates to 'delicately' in Turkish. It is produced in Anatolia in the Tokat area of the Black Sea wine growing region next to the Halys river. Golden in color, clear and bright.
This is a a Rosé from the Çalkarası grape made in the western part of Turkey. Very pale pink in color, clear and bright. The nose has watermelons and strawberries. On the palate, this is refreshing and tasty. Strawberries and tart cherries with slight acidity. Good finish. Nothing really distinguishable about the grape varietal in this format, but a very good, solid rose. Nice energy, it probably should be drunk in the next year or so to enjoy that aspect as well although it should drink longer. This will match with a wide variety of foods. It ould work well at brunch with Menemen.
Made from Emir and Narince grapes grown in Turkey. Pale golden in color, clear and bright. The nose has lemons, slight grapefruit and minerals. Medium bodied. On the palate, lemons, bitters and slight grapefruit. Some depth. Though probably past its prime, it is still enjoyable. Drink soon. This works better with food and would be nice with some grilled appetizers.
This is a Sauvignon Blanc from Turkey. While obviously this has some age on it, it showed well and improved with air over the course of a few hours. 13.5% ABV. Golden color, slightly on the deeper gold side (probably due to some age). Clear and bright. The nose is reticent at first but with air shows minerals, slight hay, and a slight winter-green note. After an hour or two, it shows some fruit - melon and slight tropical fruit. It has a lovely, slightly oily texture. On the palate, this is a lively wine. Nice minerality if not a lot of fruit.
