Alma de Cattleya 2019 Red Wine

July 15th, 2021 By Michael Cervin
# Wine Recommendations, Wine Producers, Growers, & Labels, Red Blend

This wine hits all the right notes: it’s hefty enough for a carnivore, but delicate enough for someone who likes the graceful feel of pinot noir. A composition of mainly syrah, with 22% cabernet sauvignon and 14% merlot, and aged 18 months in neutral French oak barrels, this is a blend that winemaker Bibiana Gonzalez Rave excels at. The syrah and cabernet compliment each other very well. The berry notes of black berry, black cherry, black current, and moderate tannic structure (so it’s drinkable right now) and a supporting acidity, make this very refreshing. Though cabernet and syrah blends are not as unique as they once were, this 2019 shows that in the capable hands of Rave, grapes can meld to create a delightful, seamless wine.
