Just an average guy with experience in the retail end of the wine business. I'm now writing about food and wine at my blog, http://atlantawineguy.com, so I hope you can stop by and feel free to comment or email me about anything wine related.

Atlanta Wine Guy Thinks:

A tell-tale sign of a wine snob is:

They buy labels like Jordan, Cakebread, Opus One, Silver Oak and think everything else is plonk or not worth their time. I'm not saying their choices are bad, just that they I've seen people who hold them in higher regard than ANY wine should be held.

The wine region I most want to visit:

Champagne

My biggest wine pet peeve:

People who only buy wines with scores of 90+

My favorite wine quote:

Life is too short to drink bad wine.

My dream wine to one day taste or own:

A Tokaji Essencia - producer doesn't matter.

The best wines I have ever tasted:

1996 Deutz Blanc de Blanc - So elegant and fresh for a wine with 13 years of age on it. I've only got one left and will drink it sooner rather than later, for I'd hate to have it get past its prime. 1995 Krug - tasted this at a trade tasting and it was typical Krug, very rich and extremely complex, with a plethora of bread, nutty and citrus components. Too bad it is so darn expensive!

The people with whom I most often enjoy wine:

People at tastings that I attend regularly. No snobbery, just people who appreciate good wine, be it $7 or $199.

The last wine I had that I absolutely loved:

Wild Rock Cupid's Arrow Pinot Noir - great bargain from New Zealand's Central Otago region.

What I think of the movie Sideways:

I liked it, but it didn't make me go ga ga for Pinot Noir. I really liked Maya's soliloquy

My thoughts on the 100 point rating scale made famous by Robert Parker and emulated by seemingly everyone:

I wouldn't mind it as much if it were done via panel tastings instead of the single person format. When I rate wines, I put them in a category from okay > good > above average > outstanding > classic. This emulates the 100 point system, but without being specific. Besides, it removes the context and when it comes to evaluating wine, that can be as big or even bigger than the wine itself. Wine is about connecting people, coming together and basking in the warm glow of friendship and the effects of alcohol ;-).

My wine travels have taken me to the following wine regions:

Ummm...North Georgia? My wallet is kinda thin.
