2021 Bedrock Wine Co. Heritage Wine Papera Ranch, USA, California, Sonoma, Russian River Valley, Wine Review

This is a field blend of mostly Zinfandel but also a large amount of Carignan, Valdigue, and Putzscheere (aka Green Hungarian). This is one of my favorite Zinfandel vineyards for the texture of the wines. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, black cherries, spice, bramble and slight char. Medium to full bodied. Light to medium tannins. Great energy and balance. Plush, vibrant texture. On the palate, this is tasty. Flavors of black raspberries and black cherries with spice and char. Long finish. This is still young but drinking well. Drink over the next ten years. It is great on its own and works nicely with many foods. It went well with take-out Chinese.

This remains my favorite Carlisle Zinfandel year in and year out. There are lots of reasons, but chief among them is the texture. So rich and lush yet the wine has so much balance and energy. A blend of 96% Zinfandel and 4% Carignan. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with raspberries, black raspberries, slight blueberries, smoke and slight bramble. Medium to full bodied. On the palate, black raspberries, raspberries and slight black cherries with smoke and some dry earthiness. Great acidity. Long finish. Delicious. This is a field blend of over twenty varieties from the home ranch of Bedrock including Zinfandel, Carignan and Mataro. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is complex with black cherries, plums, black raspberries, spice, black pepper and char (and more). Medium to full bodied. Medium tannins. Great balance. My favorite Carlisle wine, and that is really saying something. There is something about this vineyard that just does it. It has a lot to do with texture although the other aspects are great too. And every vintage, Mike Officer seems to do better and better though 2016 might be hard to beat. Purple in color. The nose has black raspberries, black cherries, tobacco and spice. This is a blend from the winery's home vineyard of 87% Zinfandel, 13% Mixed Black Varieties (Alicante Bouschet, Petite Sirah, Grand Noir, Peloursin, Trousseau Noir, Tempranillo, Carignan, Muscadelle, Malvasia, Muscat, Clairette blanche & 28 Other Varieties). Purple in color with some ruby swirls, opaque and bright. The nose takes about twenty minutes to open and then just keeps improving. This is a field blend (mostly Zinfandel) from Sonoma. Of course, 2011 was a difficult vintage. Purple in color, ruby at the rim, flat. The nose is dusty with black cherries. Medium to full bodied. On the palate, this is somewhat surprisingly ripe. Black cherries and cherries with some prune notes. There is some depth and complexity. A long finish. This is probably better on its own but would work with pizza. Drink up over the next few years.
