This is a blend of 67% Chenin Blanc and 33% Semillon from Napa Valley. Very pale golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is nice with a touch of red apples, orange rind and minerality. Also a bit of wax. Good balance. On the palate, the minerality stands out. Some apple notes. Good finish. This is a nice, lighter styled white wine that works well with lighter foods. A nice wine with a Quiche. Drink over the next five to eight years.
Sandlands makes some of the more interesting wines around. I am a huge fan of their whites (and the reds are good, too). This is a blend of 60% Chenin Blanc and 40% Semillon from various regions in California.
Sandlands is a winery that I encourage my friends to get on their mailing list. Chenin Blanc is a huge favorite of mine and Sandlands makes a few all are great and great values. Sandlands makes some of the best Chenin Blanc in the US. Now, that might be faint praise for some, but theirs stands up to anyone's in the world too. Light silvery/gold in color with a touch of copper. The nose is very minerally with some orange peel. Medium bodied with a slightly oily texture. The minerality really comes thru to the palate, but there is also some tangerine notes and a hint or herbs. Good balance. Refreshing. Nice finish. This is drinking great now, but Chenin can age well. This won't make really old bones, but another seven to ten years is not out of the question
I am a big fan of the Chenin Blanc grape and Sandlands makes some of the best in California! They have a low alcohol but at the same time, these are not wispy or lacking in fruit. Light bronze/gold in color. The nose is great with lemons, wax, slight orange peel and minerals. On the palate, this is lean but solid. Nice acidity. A bit of lemon, over a nice steely minerality. Nice finish. Worked great on its own but will work with lighter foods and even a burger. Probably should last for 5 to 8 more years, but perhaps even longer. Good acidity. Nice mouthfeel. On the palate, this is crisp and mineral driven with some apples. Long finish. Very food friendly. This will work well with pork chops. Drink over the next seven to ten years.
