2015 Torrin Akasha, USA, California, Paso Robles, Willow Creek, Wine Review

This is 100% Syrah. Torrin wines are big, bold wines that really need at least a decade in most vintages to really come around for my tastes. That said, at age 9, this was singing. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, smoked meats, slight bacon fat, black pepper and violets. Full bodied. Medium tannins. Great energy. On the palate, black raspberries, char, some blueberries and some minerality. Long finish. This is great on its own, but even at age 9 will be a difficult food pairing. A nice BBQ Brisket would work. Drink over the next ten to fifteen years.

I tend to taste and drink a lot of wine over the course of a year. I am in a few tasting groups, sometimes the wines are consumed at various local wine store tastings and a number drunk with friends and family.

This is 95% Syrah and 5% Grenache and drinking beautifully. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, black pepper, and roasted meats and herbs. Full bodied. Good acidity. On the palate, this is delicious. Deep but the layers unwind in the glass. Probably not quite at peak but getting close. Medium tannins. Long finish. This should continue to drink well for another twelve to fifteen years. Great on its own, this would work great with roasted veggies off the grill.

Torrin continues to make some of the best, fruit forward, Rhone varietals anywhere. These are big wines that benefit from extended cellaring. This one is 100% Syrah. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is intense with black raspberries, black pepper, slight iodine, roasted meats and herbs and spice. Full bodied. Medium tannins. Great lush texture. On the palate, concentrated black raspberry fruit, some blueberries, black pepper with underlying meatiness and char. Nice acidity. Lots of energy. Long finish. This will still get better over the next five years and drin

Torrin makes some of the best Rhone styled wines anywhere. This is 30% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Tannat, so not completely a Rhone styled wine. Close enough. There wines are big and generally need at least five years to start to be approachable for my tastes. This one is just getting there. Purple in color.
