A very nice, moderately priced (on release) Barolo. With 13 years from vintage, this one is in a great place. Garnet in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose has hot tar, cherries, spice and char. Medium bodied. Firm tannins. On the palate, nice cherry fruit with some complexity. Good acidity. Nice finish. This will work better with food. Pasta with a mushroom cream sauce was perfect. Drink over the next five to eight years.
This is just coming into maturity. A bit earlier than expected and that's why its good to check in on wines every so often (or read others tasting notes). Light ruby in color, clear and bright. A very pretty perfumed nose of cherries, black cherries, menthol and slight tar. Medium bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, black cherry fruit with char/smoke and a slight candied note. Good acidity. Long finish. This is just starting to enter its prime drinking window and should be here for the next ten to fifteen years. It might still improve a bit. Purple in color. The nose is clean with black cherry fruit. Dusty. On the palate, black cherries with some dark chocolate. Very modern in style. Delicious. Light tannins. I think this is about as good as it gets but no hurry. It should have ten to twelve years at peak drinking. This will go well with pasta in mushroom or cream sauce.
Barolo's, like most wines, are available in wide price points and quality levels. Savvy shoppers can often find some of the mid-range producers at less expensive pricing and that can be a nice buying opportunity. This is one that fits into that category. It cost about $30 just a few years ago. It was young and needed some time, but for this class of Barolo, ten years is a good time to check in. And this is drinking very nicely now. This is a more accessible style of Barolo. Ruby in color with slight browning (normal even in a young Barolo). Clear and bright. The nose has cherries, anise, cranberries, and a very slight floral quality. Medium to full bodied. Very firm tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, cherries and slight rhubarb note with underlying char and slight anise. Long finish. This drinks easy for such a young Barolo, but this should continue to mature over the next five to seven years. Either way, it should drink well of ten years. Vietti makes some great value wines and some top Barolos. This one is their entry level Barolo and it is a very nice value and a very nice Barolo! At age 19 from a great vintage, this is showing some maturity but certainly not all the way there yet. Purple in color, ruby at the rim with no browning.
