This is drinking well right now. Deep ruby in color. The nose has black cherries, plums, roasted meats and slight tar. Medium bodied. On the palate, the black cherries come thru with an underlying charred meat quality. Good acidity. Nice structure. Light tannins. The finish is moderate. This probably should be consumed in the next five years or so. It works better with food. A nice mushroom pasta dish would be a good choice.
Looking back over old notes, I see I had this bottle in 2010. It is nice to revisit. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose is dusty with cherries and slight mint. On the palate, this has a voluptuous texture. Plenty of cherry fruit with slight underlying forest floor. Still persistent tannins. At age 20, there is still some development probable. It has aged slowly and stubbornly but is still an outstanding bottle of wine. Given where it is, it should easily have another decade. More, for well stored bottles. This will go well with Osso Buco.
Decanted for sediment, this is still a bit young but no harm opening now. Deep garnet with slight bricking, clear and bright. Classic nose of cherries, slight dried cherries, some floral/rose notes and slight tar. Full bodied. Medium tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, this is showing nice complexity. Lots of cherries, some dried cherries, with some underlying forest floor, mushrooms and tar. Long finish. This drinks better with food. Mushroom pizza is a great choice. Drink over the next fifteen to twenty years.
Great showing for this wine. Decanted for sediment and air for about 4 hours. Light ruby in color, clear and bright. No browning. The nose is pretty with cherries, slight cherry juice, roses, black cherries and slight forest floor. Medium to full bodied. On the palate, the black cherries come thru a bit stronger. Mild tannins. Underlying forest floor. Great acidity. Long finish. This has layers of fruit and earth. It seems to be drinking close to prime now, but well stored bottles should easily have another decade. This will work great with pasta, mushrooms or more savory meat
Vietti makes some great value wines and some top Barolos. This one is their entry level Barolo and it is a very nice value and a very nice Barolo! At age 19 from a great vintage, this is showing some maturity but certainly not all the way there yet. Purple in color, ruby at the rim with no browning. This is really drinking quite well right now. I had been told it might be past prime, but this bottle, bought on release and well cellared was about as good as one could expect. Ruby in color. Very pretty nose of cherries, tar, and slight roses. On the palate, this has layers of fruit, dried fruit and earthy forest floor. Great acidity. Nice finish. Worked perfectly at the dinner table. No hurry on this but this is at or close to peak.
