Gavi's a nice refreshing white wines from the north of Italy. They are meant to be drunk young and this one is pushing it but still drinking well for immediate consumption. Light golden in color. The nose is nice with a steely minerality and some melon. On the palate, it turns more citrus (grapefruits?) and still minerals. Good acidity. This is very food friendly and works with a wide variety of foods. Long finish.
This bottle was opened and decanted for a few hours. Still young but really blossoming. Ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose is gorgeous with cherries, roses, slight tar and slight dried cherries. On the palate, this has great cherry fruit. Light tannins. Layers of fruit, earth and dry forest floor. Complex. Long finish. Good acidity. Better with food. This continued to improve for the 2 hours or so it was opened. Still some upside but a great Barolo.
This is really drinking quite well right now. I had been told it might be past prime, but this bottle, bought on release and well cellared was about as good as one could expect. Ruby in color. Very pretty nose of cherries, tar, and slight roses. On the palate, this has layers of fruit, dried fruit and earthy forest floor. Great acidity. Nice finish. Worked perfectly at the dinner table. No hurry on this but this is at or close to peak.
This is always one of the best values out there in red wine. It drinks like a mini-Barolo. Ruby, clear and bright. The nose has roses, slight earthiness and cherries. With air, some sour cherries emerge. On the palate this is complex and layers of sherries, earth and tobacco are found. Great acidity. Nice finish. At eleven years from vintage, this seems at peak but has at least five or six years left. Current vintages are still available all over for under $25 per bottle. Great with food.
Light ruby in color. The nose has cherries, black cherries, slight roses. On the palate, there is plenty of cherry fruit here. This was an incredibly warm vintage, but the wine is not roasted. It, perhaps lacks the depth of some vintages, but it is drinking well and very tasty. Slight tannins left. Some acidity. At 15 years from vintage, it won't get better, but has a decade left of life. Food friendly.
Ruby in color. The nose is very nice with cherries, slight floral notes and tar. On the palate, this has a nice complexity. Layers of cherries, dried cherries and forest floor. Good not great acidity. Long finish. This seemed to coming right along, so we left about 1/3 of the bottle, recorked and on the counter to follow. On night 2, the nose of this was model airplane glue. Very hard to get past. It was fine on the palate, but the nose was terrible. Not sure what that means about ageing but I wouldn't let this get a ton of air once its opened. That said, on Night 1, it was outst
Ruby, clear and bright. The nose has nice cherries to it. Slight licorice and char. On the palate, this shows a nice complexity. Certainly outperforming vintage expectations. Tart cherries and cherry juice. Good acidity. nice finish. Food friendly.
A very unusual wine. It's hard for me to put into context. Sort of like a sweet Barolo mixed with good Vermouth. Ruby/purple in color. The nose has botanicals, herbs and slight raisin notes. On the palate, this is sweet with herbal qualities. It is very enjoyable but a little goes a long way.
