This is more of a "claret" styled Zinfandel than a big brawny styled Zin. Purple in color with some ruby swirls. The nose has dust, black cherries and slight tobacco. On the palate, this has some depth. Juicy black cherry fruit intertwined with a bit of damp earth. Nice finish. This would be great with Indian food. Drink over the next five years, but it might surprise and last (a lot) longer.
This is one of the consistently better Zinfandels from Lodi. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. Mostly opaque and bright. The nose has cherries and coffee along with a bit of an herbal streak. Full bodied. On the palate this has light tannins. Nice black cherry fruit. Maybe a bit of dates. A bit of late heat on the finish. This drinks well on its own and will work well with a steak or a burger off the grill. Drink over the next five to seven years.
Always one of my favorite Zin's, in part for its uniqueness, it was wonderful concentration. Made from vines that getting close to 100 years old. This vineyard had been abandoned and then resurrected in the 1980's. Style wise it is middle of the road for Zin. Deep ruby in color. The nose has cherries, black cherries, baking spices and just a bit of char. On the palate, this is full bodied. At 14.8% Alc, this is not super high for a Zin. Lots of cherry and some charred cherry fruit. Very concentrated. Lighter tannins. Nice finish. This drinks well young but does age nice with goo
Sineann is an Oregon producer but they make wines in many places. The vines for this wine are almost one hundred years old and are just inside the Washington border. It is an excellent Zin, that is not full throttle but not shy either. It ages nicely too. Purple in color. The nose has some spice, plenty of cherries and a bit of plums. On the palate, there is a nice gravelly quality underneath some nice cherry fruit. It is young and exuberant at the moment but if you prefer a more claret style, this should cruise into that in another ten years. It will work with meats and peppery foo
