12 noon, 9/05/10 Initial opening has fruits like Black Raspberry literally engulfs the room like a vino fruit bomb air freshener! Just spectacular aromas...20 minutes later, whiffs still fill the room of lush aromatica deep Blueberry ~ Boysenberry nose to luxuriate in. >> (yet 2004 needs 2 more yrs to develop don't open earlier than 2012 to avoid puckering dusty tannins!) 4 hours open bottle: In the glass nose of fortified wine as if Amarone, tastes off with harsh tannins, dusty dry edge pucker-up tannins, again flavor profile concentrated raisin kirschness -wine still not opened yet (i.e. wait more!) Decanted wait another hour: Still has accented Silky elegant kirsch alcohol fume nose, shows BP oily legs, but smoother fine raisin texture coalescing, softer tannin, slight cardamon dusty edge signals not quite fully open. Return to btl, refrigerant over night; 2nd day, second decant, @ 61 degrees: Fresh cranberry~ Raisin nose, tastes Boysenberry currant kirsch liqueur, faint violets, medium weight palette, silky fine fortified raisin texture, tastes soft slight spice cardamon edge, finish of quince and lingering elegance. Will drink well 2012 to year 2030.
