The Russian River Valley is synonymous with quality Pinot Noir, and Migration Wine uses most of their Pinot Noir fruit for their portfolio from here, though they also include vineyards in Sonoma Coast and Santa Barbara County. Running Creek is the Russian River Valley centerpiece vineyard for Migration, producing stellar wines like this one. The seductive nose is overflowing with lush raspberry, strawberry and once this hits the palate a viscous layer of lush fruit rolls over your tongue, of strawberry preserve, boysenberry, cherry and black cherry, sweet smoke-tinged cedar. This is a round wine, one that hits every corner, ending with a medium long finish, velvety and comforting with a subtle acidity, which works behind the scenes. Though it spent 10 months in new French oak, the wood component is balanced making certain the fruit shines. And ultimately you want a delicate Pinot that expresses itself through its fruit.
