I'm a Level 1 Sommelier, addicted to learning about wine. 2008 was my first harvest, ever. I helped make wine in Somona with a fabulous winemaker and oddly enough fell in love with Italian wine while up there. My New Years resolution is to start a wine blog of my own!

kmdandridge Thinks:

A fair restaurant corkage fee is:

$15

A tell-tale sign of a wine snob is:

Anyone unwilling to question the norm. Wine is always changing, adapting and evolving, why not our preconceived notions too?

The wine region I most want to visit:

Piedmonte

My "wish list" of wines I want to acquire soon:

A bottle of my friend's Sparkling wine from Trento! Hopefully he can ship me some.

My biggest wine pet peeve:

Is when people ask for white Zinfandel. I respect the fact that this might actually be their favorite wine, but my experience is that people order this out of habit or fear of the unknown. There are so many other options, something even that could open their eyes to a new experience. My Philosophy when it comes to wine: Try it, if you don't like it, identify what you don't like about it, make a mental note, retry it in a different vintage, and if you still don't like it you can put that on your list of things you don't care for much.

My dream wine to one day taste or own:

While I don't have a specific bottle in mind. I think wine tastes of places, people and moments and feelings. I want a bottle that reminds me of the first time I fell in love.

The best wines I have ever tasted:

Tandem 2006 Gewurztraminer- the nose of a chinese herb shop in downtown LA. Asian spice with a crisp and at the same time creamy mouthfeel.

The people with whom I most often enjoy wine:

Jenine, Matteo (but now he is gone) and my parents

The last wine I had that I absolutely loved:

Kerner, Alto Adige 2005

What I think of the movie Sideways:

I love what it did for Pinot Noir. I love the attention it brought the wine industry. It bothers me that Miles attacked Merlot like he did, but he was a very sad man. The movie was all together depressing.

My thoughts on the 100 point rating scale made famous by Robert Parker and emulated by seemingly everyone:

There has to be some scale to grade wine, his works for him. 100 points is no different than getting 100% on an exam. He didn't invent something no one had ever seen before he just is the one that helped implement the system. Leave the man alone, attack the scale all you want, but until we find a better method this will have to do.

My wine travels have taken me to the following wine regions:

Northern California, Southern California and hopefully soon to Italy and France!!
