I recently had the pleasure of meeting British wine critic and writer Jancis Robinson. Jancis was making an appearance in San Francisco at the Ferry Plaza Wine Store to promote her new book (well, "new" is the wrong word, it's the revised and enhanced sixth edition of her book
"The World Atlas of Wine"), so I stopped by to pick up a copy and introduce myself. After all, it's not every day you bump into one of the world's most influential voices in wine. Below is a pic of me with Jancis.
I deliberately waited to post this so I could spend a few weeks with the book and comment on it. So here goes: The book is amazing and is a must buy for anyone who is into wine. Jancis, along with Hugh Johnson, have scoured the planet to come up with the most detailed overviews of seemingly every wine region on earth. This is the kind of book that is both a great reference to find specific wine information but also an interesting "open to any page and start reading" type of book. So often wine books are all frosting and no cake but this book comes across as a lifetime's labor of love. The level of detail is both impressive and fascinating.
