1994 Lafluer de Gay Pomerol: Had it on my honeymoon with Lamb.

Two recent Barolos from my birth year:
1958 Borgogno Barolo Riserva
This was opened at 2:30 and slowly oxygenated until 5:30 when we left for the restaurant. It was decanted for sediment right before pouring. This was light ruby on pouring. It looked and acted like a 1990 Barolo. This was a library release. Just a classic Barolo to me. It was a bit tight on opening but quickly opened in the glass. The nose was cherries, tar and rose petals. Wonderful. On the palate, this was just right. Complex. Layers of cherries, floral notes and a bit of earthiness at times. Wonderful balance and great acidity. Perfect with the food. I was able to follow this for about an hour, perhaps a bit more as I drained the remains in the decanter and it never fell off or died. 50+5+14+18+8=95

1958 G. Conterno Barolo
This was opened at 2:30 and allowed to breather until 5:30 when we left for the restaurant. It was decanted for sediment right before pouring. A fascinating wine to watch. Light orange/garnet in color, clear and bright. The nose was gorgeous on pouring but had a slightly oxidized/caramel quality to it. Somewhat sherry like. That however, blew off after about 20 minutes. There was also a cherry, dried cherry, tar and rose component that kept getting stronger. This tasted like an older wine, much older than the Borgogno, but really rocked. At about the hour mark, it was showing vibrant although delicate cherry flavors. Great earthiness and was packed with craisins, tobacco, tar and earthiness. In the end I preferred this to the Borgogno but just by a bit. I think the table was mixed. 50+4+14+19+9=96
